We cannot over-emphasize the power of awareness at this critical point, a lot has been done in this regard over the past few weeks, but much more is still needed, especially in languages and tones of the presently unreached people.

A millennial with an average level of education and active online presence might not have a problem getting timely information on the emerging cases of the pandemic and the various simple precautionary measures circulated right now. But the case is different for the large proportion of the less active and less educated demographics with whom we unavoidably share contact every day. This particular demographic has a relatively poor factual understanding of the virus, and act accordingly.

However, whether you like it or not, your staying safe depends on the safety of such people around you, and the responsibility to carry them along is largely on you.

I live in the city of Ibadan, where an average man on the street believes that the COVID-19 virus is only for the rich and that every poor man is immune to it somehow. So, they go about their everyday business without any caution. This is an erroneous belief that needs to be conquered urgently and at all costs. It would take highly targeted awareness in languages and tones that they understand to effectively communicate the prevailing danger and cautionary measures of COVID-19 to these demographics and others.
