Bigoted sentiments are what we see and read daily on social media, even those people you expect on all sides to unite and fight our common enemy – corruption – create unhealthy discourse among Nigerians.

Regrettably, one thought Nigerians were going to take advantage of our uncommon success in the last general elections; join former President Goodluck Jonathan’s sincerity who conceded defeat and congratulated Buhari and Nigerians; breakaway from the past; and then collectively move Nigeria forward to a promising future.

My disagreement with folks about Nigeria is our fixation on what they call “contraption”. Or what the late political giant, Chief Obafemi Awolowo called “mere geographical expression”.

Meanwhile, as espoused by President Barack Obama to President Buhari in their recent bilateral rapport during the latter’s official visit to the United States, that the U.S. will partner with Nigeria so that the country ends up being not only an anchor of prosperity and stability in the eastern (western) part of the continent, but can also be an outstanding role model for developing countries around the world.

This encapsulates what we “Buharists” have been talking about. A synopsis of goodies coming to Nigeria under this administration. Buhari, according to him, “has a reputation of integrity and a clear agenda” for Nigeria. The two leaders are icons of inspiration to patriotic Nigerians. They epitomise the mind of a leader. There are opportunities in this new political dispensation. We should start to take advantage of them; proffer solutions to our shortcomings rather than ossifying divisiveness among us.

Enough! As I urge us to reason together to build a formidable and united Nigeria. Nigeria not only belongs to all of us, it belongs to Africa and the world.
