Malala Yousufzai, President Jonathan Lied To You

A large population of Nigerians today don’t take the words of President Jonathan seriously. The few who do, are those confined in the allegory of sycophancy and social confusion, as they are purely unpatriotic and feel no empathy to the issue on ground simply because, they think in their widest frictional thoughts, that they are not affected in any way whatsoever. It is a pity and a huge shame to those Nigerians who has constantly refused to lend their voices to the troubling national challenges and in particular, to the #BringBackOurGirls advocacy campaign. Those who died in the Nyanya blast never asked for it, those whose lives was cut short during the Emab plaza blast didn’t asked for it…the insecurity in the country resulted to their deaths and it’s a course we all must raise up to stop.

Today marks the ninety-second day since the Chibok schoolgirls were taken from us, taken from their parents and denied education and freedom. For seventy-seven days, the Abuja Family of #BringBackOurGirls advocacy campaign has been coming out, under heavy downpour or sunlight, reminding the government of the importance and translational effect of rescuing the abducted girls. The government on the other hand, has thought, strategized and executed several means to end the campaign, calling the campaigners all manner of names up to the point of BRANDING them FRANCHISE.

Yesterday, Malala Yousufzai, the 17-year-old Pakistani Girl Rights Activist who survived Taliban attack in 2012, payed a visit to President Jonathan at the Villa, speaking to him on the need to bring the abducted schoolgirls back home and provide quality education to them. Now in response, President Jonathan PROMISED her that as a matter of urgency, that the girls will be brought back home to their parents “as soon as possible”, his words. This i strongly doubt with no apology whatsoever. This is not the first time that President Jonathan is making such a flimsy promise. He promised to give an immediate job for the families of job applicants who lost their lives during the Nigerian Immigration Service Recruitment, what has happened since then, has anyone of them got a job on account of the federal government? The answer is no! So for Jonathan to make such a promise to Malala at this time, i call it a POLITICAL STATEMENT that holds no water.

Jonathan also promised to give scholarships to all the abducted schoolgirls, the question is, will he do this with the girls in Boko Haram’s den? President Jonathan will have to bring them back before providing the imaginary scholarship. I can categorically say that the parents of these girls want their daughters back and not a promise of scholarship. Jonathan is lying to Malala and it is a big shame for him as a person, and as a leader in a country as big and well respected as Nigeria.

Action they say speak louder than words. The unrewarding and unresultful series of words we’ve all heard in the past few months, ever since these girls were abducted, is nothing compared to the actions on ground. In fact, nothing has translated those WORDS into an actionable result on the pressing need to rescue the girls. Until this is done, President Jonathan is just a lying president.
