Having read a lot of comments and contributions on Offa/Erin-Ile crisis, I cannot but conclude that many don’t even know the genesis of the issue they are commenting on. Why can’t we jaw-jaw instead of war-war? asked Muideen Adebayo Ibrahim in one of his article on the issue of Offa/Erin-Ile crisis. I want to mention here that, the hatred between between the Offa and Erin-Ile communities which has unfortunately culminated into incessant generational communal war is indeed very painful not only because of the lives it has claimed or damages to properties whenever it occurs, but also because it is causing a great deal of other invincible socio-cultural harms than good.

One wonders why at this age when we are suppose to be thinking about other more important and challenging developmental issues we are still here talking about how to resolve the long resolved land issue. I say resolved because this issue has gone as far as the supreme court and judgement passed since 10/12/1973. If that be the case then, why can’t we just uphold the supreme court judgement and live in peace and harmony.

However, since this crisis rear its ugly head again couple of weeks back now and claimed lots of lives and properties as it usually do, I have been reading with interest quite a lot of articles, comments and contributions from various concerned people from both parties which has make me to believe that most of the commentators do not know the fact concerning the issues they are commenting on. If these people happen to be adequately informed about the genesis of the matter in terms of the history supported by fact regarding the disputed area of land, I believe their perception and thoughts would be different. As a result, I cannot blame anybody for saying whatever they said and still saying on this issue, as their opinion was premise upon the amount of information available to them on the matter. Why is it that those who know the truth of the matter are misleading the majority who does not know?

Before I started commenting on the issue, what I did first was to investigate and research the truth of the matter. This is what I expect from all well meaning indigenes of these warring communities to do first so that they would know by themselves whether the cause they were fighting is a just one or not. At least there are records for everything that happened as far as that piece of land is concerned. I have a lot of fact and figures concerning the disputed area of land which I cannot elaborate here, but above all the supreme court judgement has come to seal everything.

The truth might be bitter, nevertheless we still have to say it loud, and I say until the judgement concerning this land as read by the supreme court is upheld, I don’t think there would be total peace in that area (Offa/Erin-Ile axis). And that’s probably why all solutions proffered by successive governments has been temporal and cannot bring the much desired total and everlasting peace. Now, the outcome of the recent commission of inquiry would determine whether this regime is offering yet another temporary or permanent solution to the crises.

The fact remains that, it’s the government and other influential cabal that are the cause of all these problems and the loss of lives by not doing the right thing. … and what is the right thing? Imagine two hunters went on hunting expedition and killed two grass-cutter, on getting home the eldest of the two send the other one to get him a knife to share the grass-cutter (bush meat). Is that necessary again? when two people had two things all they need to do is take one each as it has been divinely divided by God. That exactly is the case between Offa and Erin-Ile in the sense that the matter that has been judged by supreme court why do we need a commission of enquiry. All we need to do is get the white paper on the judgement, locate the adjudged boundary and mount a sign post to read BYE BYE TO OFFA on one side and WELCOME TO ERIN-ILE on the other side vice versa.
