Prof. Onukawa to Deliver ABSU 24th Inaugural Lecture -By Alphonsus Okoroigwe
Prof. M.C. Onukawa, foremost linguist, will deliver the 24th Inaugural Lecture of Abia State University, Uturu.
Coming as one of the highpoints of the university’s last senate meeting, the lecture has been slated for next Wednesday, as contained in a release by the institution.
Onukawa’s theme, ‘Gini bu aha gi?’ a contemporary Igbo discourse that means ‘what is your name?’ will focus on core aspects of Igbo language and culture.
An alumnus of the University of Jos and accomplished researcher, he has published in national and international academic journals, including ‘English Prepositions and the Igbo Native Speaker: Error of Word Class in a Second Language’ and ‘Anthropolinguistic Evidence of the Evolution of Chi-names in Igbo.’
The inaugural lecture series has been revived to enhance research among the university’s teaching staff, as implemented by the vice chancellor, Prof. Uche Ikonne.
