UK Pilgrimage: Nigeria’s First Citizen and The Uncensored Controversy -By Olalekan Olatunbosun Onaopemipo

First, i want you to understand this is not instigated by political antagonism but simply a patriotic act to avoid history repeating itself with the unnecessary tensions always attached to it. I know in recent history of similar vacation of Nigeria’s first citizen, he was away for about three months before he was ‘smuggled’ in, apparently, to have his last breath on Nigeria’s soil.

Let me quickly remind you of history. Late Ex-President Yar’Adua left Nigria on 23 November, 2009 for his ‘medical pilgrimage’ in Saudi Arabia reportedly to receive treatment for Pericarditis. It was barely a month from his flight, Barr. O.O Akeredolu advocated hand over of power to Goodluck Jonathan.

The Senate controversially used the ‘doctrine of neccesity’ to transfer Presidential Powers to the VP on the 9th day of February, 2010. Though, some considered that illegal. At exactly 15 days after, he was smuggled to Nigeria under the cover of darkness until he died 5th, May 2010.

I am not saying this history will repeat itself. In fact, i am not praying for it. But i think it is high time the Federal Executive Council (FEC) brought this uncensored controversy of President Muhammadu Buhari health and indefinite medical vacation in the UK to a stop.

This is virtually the time we need PMB most. Pictures emerging from the UK residence to me is psuedo. Nigerians need to hear from you and not Donald Trump. A video of you, or a phone call to a Nigeria radio studio will go a long way to cease this rising anxiety and budding altercation.

The most annoying of all these issues to me was the statement of Mr. Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity stating, ‘ i am not aware and when i say that to you, believe it. I am not aware. The president is the ONLY one who can release his own medical status….’. Imagine!

Nigerians deserves to know the present state of PMB. Presidency must let him address us, budding bloody altercations must be curb now, we dont need an acting president, but a sitting president.

If PMB is unfit, let him declare it. That seat is not a do or die thing. Nigeria needs to keep moving.

Quick recovery my dearest PMB.
