AKURE, 5 June 2018 — Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) Ondo State Chapter joins the rest of the world to celebrate the World Environment Day. A day set aside for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

From the very first World Environment Day observed in 1974 tagged “Only One Earth” to this day tagged “Beat Plastic Pollution”, the world has come a very long way in synergizing to tackle the environmental challenges that concern us all.

Indeed, plastic pollution has become an epidemic — statistical research reveal that 500 billion plastic bags are produced every year, more plastic have been produced in the last decade than was ever produced in the last century, we buy 1 million plastic bottles every minute.
These stats are alarming and has rightly ensured that plastic pollution is taking the centre stage of global discourse this week.

Nigeria must take a cue from other countries of the world like China, Germany, Rwanda who are among the world’s leading recyclers of waste (including plastics) and cutting down the use of plastic. Nigeria must move from the open landfills in every state of the country that have become eyesores to generating wealth from the recycling of this waste. Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) is essentially a green party and has clearly enshrined in her constitution, “OUR GREEN COMMITMENT” which details our responsibility to protecting our environment in a sustainable manner.

We will adhere to this green commitment at all levels of government when voted in to ensure that our part of the planet is not left behind in environmental issues as the rest of the world moves on.
