2 police officers detained over illegal duty, civilian’s death in Lagos

Two police officers who went on an unauthorized assignment and resulted in the death of a civilian have been apprehended by the Lagos State Police Command.

This was announced in a statement released on Saturday by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Command.

The two officers, whose names and ranks were withheld, were reported by Hundeyin to be part of the State Taskforce.

He claimed that on Wednesday, the officers and a few citizens carried out the unlawful operation.

One of the citizens was killed, according to Hundeyin, when motorbike riders attacked the unauthorized team.

“While disciplinary actions have commenced on the already detained police officers, search is on for their civilian accomplices.

“Investigations have commenced to identify, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of this dastardly act,” he said.
