Not minding that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Sandy Onor, is from the central senatorial district of Cross River State, political stakeholders from the zone have maintained that they would work for the victory of Senator Bassey Otu, the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) who is from the southern axis of the state.
A political leader and highly influential politician from the Cross River Central, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, made this known while speaking to members and non-members of APC supporting Otu’s guber aspiration, during one of the candidate’s consultative visit recently.
The erstwhile Senate Leader reminded the people that power rotation has come to stay in Cross River State as a standard and norm that should not be broken.
The former Chairman Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), reportedly told the gathering that people of Cross River Central he represented for 12 years in the Red Chamber are in total support of power moving to the South in the state come 2023 for the purpose of fairness, equity and justice.
The ex-parliamentarian said after the gubernatorial seat had rotated from Cross River South (Donald Duke, 1999 – 2007), to Cross River Central (Liyel Imoke, 2007 – 2015) and to Cross River North (Ben Ayade, 2015 – 2023), it was only proper and fair that the governorship slot is allowed to return to Cross River South.
He further noted that the spirit of peaceful co-existence, oneness and unity that has been part and parcel of the state politics since the enthronement of the current democratic dispensation in 1999, must be sustained with a massive support by Cross Riverians for the candidature of Bassey Otu of APC.
Expressing confidence that everything was working well in favour of Otu as the candidate to beat, he averred that Cross River APC guber flag bearer has what it takes to bring further transformation and development to the state.
Ndoma-Egba also called on the people of the state to throw their weight behind all the candidates of APC in the forthcoming elections, adding that the party is poised to serve them better.
