The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Prof. Gabriel Yomere, has implored the ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission not to allow any room for over-voting.

He implored them on Friday during a training organised for the ad hoc staff at its state headquarters in Calabar, where he begged the electoral officers to “enter the right figures.”

He said Saturday’s election would be different from the presidential and National Assembly elections because “it is local, emotions will be high and it is prone to violence.”

He said there was over-voting in the last elections, warning that with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, there should be no over-voting, adding that mutilation of figures would also create room for suspicions.

Yomere further told the collation and returning officers that INEC attached much importance to a free, fair and credible election and relied on them to follow suit as well.

“I implore you, no matter the inducement, let the fear of God guide you. Enter the right figures.”

Participants in the training who complained about their welfare were assured that it would be taken care of.
