Political analyst, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has described the forthcoming 2025 Anambra governorship election as more than a political contest, calling it “a referendum on the collective future of Ndi Anambra.”

In a statement released ahead of the November 8 poll, Ejiofor urged voters, candidates, and institutions to conduct themselves with integrity, stressing that the outcome must reflect the “voice of the people, not the noise of manipulation.”

“As Anambrarians head to the polls for this crucial election, I consider it both a duty and a privilege to remind our people that this is not just another vote—it is a defining choice that will shape the destiny of our beloved state,” he said.

Ejiofor appealed to voters to reject all forms of inducement or intimidation, describing the ballot as a sacred tool of accountability.

“A vote is not a commodity; it is a sacred trust. To sell your vote is to auction your conscience, and in doing so, mortgage the future of your children for a fleeting moment of gratification,” he warned.

He emphasised that the election gives citizens a unique opportunity to decide the kind of leadership and governance Anambra deserves.

“The campaigns are over. The rhetoric has ended. It is now time for the people to speak through the ballot and determine their own future,” he stated.

Expressing optimism for a peaceful and credible process, Ejiofor cited assurances from security agencies and called for full cooperation from residents. He cautioned against actions that could disrupt public order or undermine the credibility of the vote.

“May the will of the people prevail, and may victory be earned through the power of persuasion, not the manipulation of figures,” he added.

Turning his attention to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ejiofor said the election would be a “litmus test” for the integrity and leadership of its new chairman, Prof. Amupitan, amid high public expectations.

“INEC must not only avoid aiding electoral malpractice but must also guard against internal compromise. The greatest threat to credible elections often lies in the actions of a few unscrupulous insiders who betray public trust,” he cautioned.

Ejiofor concluded by urging INEC to uphold transparency and professionalism throughout the process.

“Nigerians expect an election that is free, fair, transparent, and rig-free. Anything less will be a disappointment to public confidence and a stain on the Commission’s credibility,” he said.
