2026 Appropriation: Tinubu, Shettima, aides budget N12.2bn for travels
Details of Nigeria’s 2026 Appropriation Bill show President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima and aides plan to spend N12.2bn on foreign and local travel, with foreign trips taking the largest share.
President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and their aides are expected to spend a combined N12.2 billion on foreign and local travels in the 2026 fiscal year.
The figure is contained in the State House budget estimates submitted under the 2026 Appropriation Bill currently before the National Assembly.
Details of the budget indicate that the Presidency is maintaining a strong focus on international engagements, with foreign trips accounting for the bulk of travel and transport expenditure for both the President and Vice President, despite prevailing fiscal constraints and ongoing economic reforms.
For President Tinubu, a total of N7.014 billion was allocated to travel and transport. Out of this amount, N6.14 billion is earmarked for international travels and associated logistics, while N873.89 million is set aside for local travel and transportation.
The Vice President is allocated N1.732 billion for travel in the 2026 fiscal year, comprising N1.31 billion for foreign trips and N417.49 million for local movements.
In addition, the State House Headquarters has a separate allocation of N3.433 billion for travels and transport under the “General” category.
The budget also makes provisions for other presidential expenses, including N179.01 million for the purchase of motor vehicles for the President and N375.19 million for food and catering supplies. Drugs and medical supplies are allocated N79.68 million, while refreshment and meals received N56.43 million.
Overall, the President’s total allocation stands at N8.39 billion, including items not detailed, with capital expenditure accounting for N777.19 million.
For the Vice President, N171.03 million was allocated for food and catering supplies, N14.99 million for refreshments and meals, and N21.8 million for honorarium and sitting allowances. Other provisions include N28 million for welfare packages and N11.83 million for publicity and advertisements.
In total, the Vice President’s allocation amounts to N2.64 billion, inclusive of items not specified, with capital expenditure estimated at N641.39 million, reflecting spending on assets and long-term support infrastructure.
The State House Headquarters received an overall allocation of N43.20 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. This comprises N2.64 billion for personnel costs, N10.10 billion for overheads, and N30.49 billion for capital expenditure.
Further breakdown of the budget shows N11.23 billion allocated for the purchase of motor vehicles and N7 billion for the provision of solar power at the Presidential Villa. Wildlife conservation within the State House is allocated N2.424 billion, while honorarium and sitting allowances account for N2.12 billion.
Office furniture and fittings received N2.56 billion, welfare packages N513.84 million, and vehicle spare parts and maintenance N3.84 billion.
Additionally, N8.48 billion was budgeted for the rehabilitation and repair of office buildings, while N44.21 million was earmarked for the rehabilitation of residential buildings.
Other allocations include N371.80 million for library books and equipment, N12.19 million for sporting and gaming equipment, and N11.71 million for the construction and provision of office buildings.
