Nigeria’s Super Eagles reignited their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a resounding 4–0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo on Tuesday night, securing a crucial spot in the CAF playoff stage.

The hosts delivered one of their best performances of the qualifying series, powered by a stunning hat-trick from Victor Osimhen, while Frank Onyeka capped the night with a late goal.

Nigeria wasted no time asserting dominance, opening the scoring in the third minute when Osimhen calmly slotted home a Samuel Chukwueze assist. The Napoli striker doubled the lead midway through the first half, heading in another cross from Chukwueze to make it 2–0.

Benin tried to mount a comeback but were repeatedly denied by Nigeria’s solid defensive pairing of Calvin Bassey and Bright Osayi-Samuel, while goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made key saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Osimhen completed his hat-trick in the 51st minute, finishing off a swift counterattack that left Benin’s defense exposed. Nigeria continued to control possession, with substitutes Olakunle Olusegun and Terem Moffi adding pace and creativity in the final third.

Benin’s hopes faded further in stoppage time when Frank Onyeka added a fourth goal after a dazzling run and assist from Moses Simon, sealing an emphatic win for the Super Eagles.
