Seyi Makinde
In a bold statement, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde declared that the 2027 election will be a showdown between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Nigerians. Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized that his party is determined to take down the APC, which has been in power since 2015.
Makinde’s Warning: APC’s Hardship on Nigerians
Makinde attributed his stance to the hardship inflicted on Nigerians by the APC-led government. He argued that the party’s policies have worsened the country’s economic and social woes, leaving many citizens disillusioned and desperate for change.
South-West Won’t Vote APC, Says Makinde
The Oyo State governor also claimed that the South-West region, a traditional APC stronghold, will not vote for the party in 2027. Makinde’s assertion is significant, given the region’s crucial role in determining the outcome of presidential elections.
PDP’s Strategy
Makinde, alongside his Osun State counterpart, Ademola Adeleke, unveiled strategies to strengthen the PDP in the South-West. The governors aim to capitalize on the perceived failures of the APC government and present the PDP as a viable alternative.
Implications for 2027 Election
Makinde’s statements have sparked intense debate ahead of the 2027 election. As Nigerians prepare to head to the polls, the APC faces increasing pressure to address the country’s challenges and regain public trust. Will the PDP succeed in its bid to oust the APC, or will the ruling party retain its grip on power? Only time will tell.
