Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that he has no intention of defecting, though he remains open to strategic political discussions.

Kwankwaso made the statement on Wednesday during the 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NNPP held in Abuja, amid speculations about his political future and potential alliances.

“Many people thought today we will announce whether I will stay in NNPP or go to another party or join some individuals. That was not the intention of the meeting. We have our party, and we are comfortable and happy,” Kwankwaso said.

He emphasized that while the NNPP is not in a rush, it remains open to dialogue and collective negotiations with other stakeholders.

“We believe we have something to offer at the highest leadership level of this country. We are ready to talk to anybody, but any negotiation will be collective,” he stated.

In his welcome remarks, NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, officially endorsed Kwankwaso as the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 elections.

“Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, our visionary leader, former governor, minister, diplomat, and 2023 presidential candidate, will Insha Allah be our candidate again in 2027,” Ahmed announced.

Dr. Ahmed described the NNPP as the “beautiful bride” of Nigerian politics, asserting that the party remains highly sought-after due to its progressive agenda and commitment to citizens’ welfare. He also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for delivering impactful governance that aligns with the NNPP’s vision of a new Nigeria.

On the party’s upcoming political engagements, NNPP National Secretary, Dipo Olayoku, confirmed that the party is fully prepared for the Anambra governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025, and the FCT Area Council elections in February 2026.

Olayoku also disclosed that internal preparations are underway to elect a new National Working Committee (NWC), as the tenure of the current executives—elected in April 2022—draws to a close.

The party used the occasion to urge Nigerians to participate in the INEC Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the elections.

“Your vote is your voice and power to elect credible leaders,” the party reminded citizens.
