2027: PDP Won’t Repeat APC’s Muslim-Muslim Ticket Mistake – Governor Bala Mohammed
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Mohammed dismissed speculations around a possible Seyi Makinde/Bala Mohammed presidential ticket, stressing that the PDP has not yet decided on any candidate.
Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not make what he described as the “mistake” of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in fielding a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Mohammed dismissed speculations around a possible Seyi Makinde/Bala Mohammed presidential ticket, stressing that the PDP has not yet decided on any candidate.
“Everybody should know that PDP is open, and it’s open in a manner that it is for the southerner to bring somebody,” he said.
He went further to say,
“We don’t want to make the mistake of the APC. We need a Christian from the South to emerge as presidential candidate so that he will lead the majority of Christian southerners to come and pick the majority Muslim vice president in the North, not to put ourselves in a cul-de-sac the way and manner APC did in 2023.”
According to Mohammed, the APC’s decision to run a Muslim-Muslim ticket failed to reflect Nigeria’s religious and ethnic diversity.
“That did not take into cognisance our diversity,” he said.
When asked specifically about the possibility of a Makinde-Mohammed ticket to challenge the Tinubu-Shettima presidency in 2027, the governor responded:
“It could match even better. It depends on what Nigerians want. If they want the continuation of this clueless administration, then it is the choice of Nigerians.”
Highlighting his and Makinde’s leadership records at the state level, he added:
“Certainly, they have seen the pedigree and capacity of Seyi and my humble self at subnational level. And of course, it is not only Seyi that is there — there are so many people that may even come up and so many people that can be good vice presidents.”
Governor Mohammed concluded by saying that the PDP has a wide pool of capable leaders to choose from and that he would support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate.
