Zamfara Mine Collapse Traps Artisanal Miners, Rescue Efforts Underway
Several artisanal miners were trapped after mining pits collapsed in Kadauri, Maru LGA, Zamfara State. Rescue operations are ongoing, and injured miners are receiving treatment at Maru General Hospital.

The Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZSEMA), Amb. Bala Ahmad, confirmed on Friday that several artisanal miners were trapped following the collapse of mining pits.
The incident occurred in Kadauri community, Maru Local Government Area, on Thursday night.
Ahmad, speaking to reporters in Gusau, did not provide further details but stated he was meeting with stakeholders and promised to share additional information in due course.
Local community leaders reported that many miners remained trapped after the pits gave way following several hours of heavy rain.
“The number of casualties and those still trapped is not yet known,” said the locals. “Those who sustained injuries are being treated at Maru General Hospital.”
They added that community members were working alongside state officials to rescue survivors from the collapsed mining pits.
