A Call for Educational Investment in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State -By Idris Talba

The benefits of establishing a Federal College of Education in Giwa are far reaching. Apart from producing trained educators who can serve within and beyond Kaduna State, the institution would attract investment, create jobs, boost local businesses, and increase access to tertiary education for rural populations. It would become a symbol of hope and an anchor of progress for generations to come.

In the heart of Giwa Local Government Area, Kaduna State, a long-standing promise remains unfulfilled the establishment of a Federal College of Education.

Though previously announced, the project has seen no visible progress, leaving many young people disheartened and the community deprived of a potentially life-changing institution. As a youth advocate and concerned citizen, I write this article to amplify a critical call to action, it is time to push for the actualization of this educational dream.

The establishment of a Federal College of Education in Giwa has been discussed and anticipated for years. Yet today, we are still waiting. The delay continues to stall educational development in our area, restricts access to teacher training opportunities, and stifles the potential of hundreds of young minds.

In a region where access to quality education is already limited, this is not just disappointing, it is dangerous.

Education is more than classrooms and chalkboards; it is a gateway to empowerment. It combats poverty, reduces crime, fosters unity, and builds the foundation for sustainable development. For a local government like Giwa, rich in human potential yet underserved in infrastructure this college would be a catalyst for transformation.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Giwa has an essential role to play in reigniting this discussion and converting it into decisive action. As the leading body representing the interests of youth, NYCN must rise to the occasion.

Direct engagement with local, state, and federal authorities is critical. NYCN must actively follow up on the status of the college, petition relevant stakeholders, and demand accountability and transparency regarding the delay.

The youth are a powerful force when organized. Through town hall meetings, peaceful rallies, and awareness campaigns, NYCN can educate the public about the benefits of the college and how it aligns with national goals for education, employment, and empowerment.

The power of advocacy lies in its reach. By partnering with journalists, radio stations, social media influencers, and civil society organizations (CSOs), the NYCN can amplify this demand and attract national attention to the cause.

This is more than a project; it is a responsibility. And now, more than ever, we must rely on the leadership of NYCN to speak up for the youth of Giwa. The Council has always been a voice for progress this is the time to make that voice even louder.

To the NYCN, we urge you: Do not let this opportunity fade into silence. Use your influence, networks, and platforms to move this cause forward. The youth are watching. The community is waiting. The future is calling.
