Abia state woman, five others nabbed for drug trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested one Adaobi Nweke alongside her mother and four family members for alleged possession of various drugs, including cocaine, metamphetamine, cannabis and heroin.

The sum of N578,400 was also recovered from the suspects who were said to be ‘a second generation family of drug dealers.’

Adaobi, 36, was said to have taken over the leadership of the drug gang after the demise of her father, Jonathan Nweke.

The suspects were apprehended at 23, Arochukwu Sreet, Umuahia, Abia State, by NDLEA officers during a joint operation with Abia State Homeland Security on February 14.

A report of the operation obtained by Saturday PUNCH on Friday indicated that the suspects include Mrs Ngozi Nweke, 65; Adaobi’s friend, Emeka Nkemefola, 36; and the herbalist to Mrs Nweke, Dike Okpara, 43.

Others are Adaobi’s nephew, Chukwudi Abel, 33; Blessing Jonathan, 22;  said to be a salesgirl and Amarachi Paul, 18,  a member of the family.

The herbalist, Okpara, was said to have been engaged to carry out rituals and other spiritual activities to ensure that the family members were not arrested by security agencies.

“Adaobi Nweke was arrested alongside her other siblings with the following exhibits: Loud 450g; cocaine 151.5g; metamphetamine 129.9g; precursor chemical 400g; cannabis sativa 500g; heroin 38g and N578,400 only.”
