A student of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Nusaiba M Hassan , has beaten contestants from around the world to secure 2nd place in an International Essay Competition organized in the United States of America. Last month, I messaged Nusaiba Muhammad Hassan, currently in her 300 level studying Political Science at ABU Zaria, encouraging her to apply for an essay competition in the US. Initially skeptical due to a previous rejection, Nusaiba hesitated but eventually decided to give it another try after my encouragement. She chose a topic intersecting Sociology, Criticism, and Political Science, wrote her essay, and forwarded it to me for review. I edited and made suggestions before she submitted it.
Nusaiba, who hails from Maru Local Government of Zamfara State, lost her father in 2020. Despite her previous setback in this competition, she is a talented writer, bead maker/seller, and fashionista. She has authored several articles and poems on topics related to Zamfara and modesty. I believe the Zamfara State government should recognize and reward Nusaiba for her outstanding achievement in securing second place in this year’s Applied Worldwide Student Essay Competition in the US.
