Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has indicated that he may adjust Nigeria’s tactical approach for Wednesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against host nation Morocco, citing growing fatigue within his squad.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the Malian tactician acknowledged that the demanding nature of Nigeria’s campaign could force a rethink of his usual setup.

“I find that my group is tired; it might be time for me to change my approach,” Chelle said. “We’ll start that way, I think. We’ll hold on in the first half and try to play our game in the second half.”

Chelle has largely relied on a 4-4-2 diamond formation throughout the tournament, pairing Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams in attack. The system has delivered impressive results, with the Super Eagles scoring 14 goals in five matches and creating more chances than any other team at the tournament.

Nigeria’s high-intensity, aggressive style has overwhelmed several opponents, including Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique and Algeria, on their route to the semi-finals.

However, the coach also expressed disappointment over the absence of Wilfred Ndidi for the Morocco encounter. The midfielder is suspended after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament during Nigeria’s 2-0 quarter-final win over Algeria. Ndidi had earlier been booked in the Round of 16 clash against Mozambique.

Chelle admitted that Ndidi’s suspension is a setback, stressing the midfielder’s importance to the team as Nigeria prepares for a decisive showdown with Morocco.
