The only survivor of June’s Air India crash may never return to the UK due to his fear of flying, his family has disclosed.

Leicester businessman Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, who survived the crash that killed 260 people, remains in India where he is undergoing counselling.

“I think he will stay over there because he would be too frightened to get on a plane again,” his brother-in-law told Daily Mail UK.

Ramesh, who escaped from seat 11A with chest injuries and cuts to his face, lost his brother Ajay, 35, in the tragedy. His wife, Hiral, and their four-year-old son travelled to India to be with him but have since returned home to Britain.

“He is still having treatment,” Hiral confirmed.

Meanwhile, families of other British victims have accused both Indian authorities and the UK Foreign Office of mishandling the aftermath. Some victims’ remains were allegedly mixed up or lost, worsening their grief.

In a letter to Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, the families wrote: “Silence and a severe lack of communication force us to bring this to your attention. We feel abandoned.”

They have now launched legal action seeking access to Air India’s maintenance and pilot records.
