Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, has clarified that he does not represent Benue State in the National Assembly and has no responsibility to intervene in the state’s internal political matters.

The clarification was issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, following social media reports linking Akpabio to alleged appointments within a political support group called Team Akpabio for Tinubu (TAT) in Benue State.

In a statement from Abuja, Eyiboh emphasized that Akpabio’s position is national, constitutional, and institutional, and that he maintains no personal or political conflict with Benue Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

Eyiboh explained that Akpabio has no involvement or knowledge of any internal activities, appointments, or decisions made by political support groups, including those using the name Team Akpabio for Tinubu.

“These groups are voluntary associations formed independently by their members to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Akpabio. They do not require the approval, endorsement, or authorisation of the President of the Senate,” the statement read.

Addressing a social media post by Hon. Aondoaver Nyakuma about an alleged appointment within TAT, Eyiboh stated: “For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, has no affiliation with and no operational knowledge of the internal affairs, appointments, or activities of any political support group, including Team Akpabio for Tinubu.”

Eyiboh also noted that Akpabio does not know Nyakuma personally and has never appointed him or anyone else to any role within any political support group.

“The President of the Senate maintains a cordial and respectful institutional relationship with Governor Alia and has no personal or political disagreements with him. He does not represent Benue State in the National Assembly and is under no obligation to intervene in intra-state politics,” the statement added.

The office urged the public and media to disregard any narratives associating Akpabio with appointments or disputes arising from private political groups.
