Akwa Ibom Village Head Arrested for Shooting Sister During Dispute

Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested Chief Friday Umoren, Village Head of Ibagwa in Abak LGA, for allegedly shooting his sister, Unwana Inyang, in the head during a dispute. The victim is in stable condition as police recover the weapon.

Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested Chief Friday Umoren, the Village Head of Ibagwa in Abak Local Government Area, for attempted murder after he allegedly shot his sister, Unwana Inyang, in the head during an argument.

According to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, the arrest followed a tip-off from a relative.

In a statement, John explained:

“On September 6, operatives of the command received a report of attempted murder filed by a man (name withheld) that his brother, Chief Umoren, Village Head of Ibagwa, allegedly shot their sister, Unwana Inyang, 32 years, on the head with a gun.

“The victim was immediately taken to a hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. Police responded to the scene, and the suspect, Chief Umoren, was arrested and taken into custody.”

The police also confirmed that a long single-barrel gun, believed to have been used in the assault, was recovered from the suspect’s possession.
