Alex Otti’s Spokesman Denies Reports of Gunmen Attacking Governor’s Convoy
Abia State clarifies that Governor Alex Otti’s convoy was not attacked in Imo. A three-man advance team heading to Sam Mbakwe Airport was ambushed by unidentified gunmen, with no lives lost, according to his spokesman.
The Chief Press Secretary to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Ukoha Njoku, has dismissed claims that the governor’s convoy was ambushed by gunmen en route to Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri.
In a statement issued on Monday, Njoku clarified that the governor was not part of the incident, but confirmed that an advance team of three staff members from the Government House, Umuahia, came under attack.
According to him, the assault occurred between Umuowa and Ihitte junction as the team travelled to the airport. The attackers remain unidentified.
He emphasized that Governor Otti’s convoy “was not involved,” adding that no fatalities were recorded.
The statement read:
“In the early hours of today, December 2nd, an advance team of three members from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on duty at Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen.
“The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction in Imo State.
“The general public is hereby informed that the convoy of Governor Otti was not involved in this attack, and no lives were lost during the unfortunate incident.”
