The UK government has confirmed that new passport application fees will take effect from April 10, 2025.

These changes, pending parliamentary approval, will lead to increased costs for both online and paper applications, impacting adults and children alike.

Fee Increases for Domestic and Overseas Applications
According to the UK Home Office, the revised fees will apply to applications submitted both within the UK and from overseas.

The adjustments are part of an effort to ensure that the passport system remains financially self-sustaining, thereby reducing reliance on taxpayer funding.

The Home Office emphasised that the government does not profit from these fees.

Increased Costs for Overseas Applications

The child fee will rise from £77 to £82.50.
Justification for the Fee Changes

The Home Office explained that these increases are necessary to sustain the passport service and ensure its continued efficiency. The fees help cover essential services, including processing applications, providing consular support to UK citizens overseas, and managing UK border operations.

“The fees contribute to the cost of processing passport applications, consular support overseas, including for lost or stolen passports, and the cost of processing British citizens at UK borders,” the Home Office stated.
