Amusan Cruises Into 100m Hurdles Semifinals at Tokyo World Championships

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan clocked 12.53s to win her heat and advance to the women’s 100m hurdles semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. She will return on Tuesday for the semis and final, as Sade Olatoye and other Nigerians also competed on day two.

World record holder Tobi Amusan stormed into the women’s 100m hurdles semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after a commanding display in her heat on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Nigerian clocked 12.53s to win heat six and secure an automatic place in Tuesday’s semi-finals. Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas finished second in 12.69s, while Italy’s Elena Carraro came third in 12.86s.

Other top contenders, including Olympic champion Masai Russell (USA), reigning world champion Danielle Williams (Jamaica), Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser, as well as Ackera Nugent and Grace Stark, also advanced comfortably from their heats.

Amusan will return to the track on Tuesday, when both the semi-finals and final of the 100m hurdles are scheduled.

In other events, Nigeria’s Sade Olatoye bowed out of the women’s hammer throw after recording a best of 68.82m, below the qualification mark.

Later on Sunday, Nigeria’s Kanyisola Ajayi and Israel Okon will feature in the men’s 100m semi-finals and final during the evening session of day two.
