Nigeria’s sprint star, Tobi Amusan, claimed silver in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships with a blazing 12.29s run.

The 28-year-old was in top form but was narrowly edged out by Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who clinched gold in a national record time of 12.24s. Grace Stark of the United States took bronze with 12.34s, while Masai Russell placed fourth in 12.44s.

Amusan, who made history in 2022 as the first Nigerian and African to win the 100m hurdles world title in Oregon, was bidding to reclaim her crown. Though she missed gold, the silver medal reinforces her legacy as one of the sport’s greats, adding to her world record (12.12s), Diamond League triumphs, and Commonwealth Games gold.

Her comeback was especially significant after missing the final at the Paris 2024 Olympics — a strong response to critics and proof she remains among the world’s best.

Nigeria’s medal hopes in Tokyo remain alive, with Ezekiel Nathaniel advancing to the men’s 400m hurdles semifinals after clocking 48.37s in the heats. The 21-year-old rising star will compete for a place in the final on Wednesday as he targets a podium finish.
