The sudden rise of rape cases in Nigeria has become a topical issue that needs to be curtailed because the life of many at risk should be protected. When capital punishment is formalized, rape cases could be eradicated or reduced to a rare case in hundreds of years.

Rape cases in Nigeria have hyped to a lofty number in this current year. Since the last five months, Nigeria has been recording subsequent rape cases which later turns out to be a topical issue. Rape is equivalent to sexual oppression.

Rape is the act of forcing another person purposely for sexual activity which is against their will. This act is mostly done to females. Recently, Nigerian police announced that 717 cases of rape have been recorded between January and May. With the sudden high cases of rape in Nigeria, women and young females are not safe, generally.

Though rape is not a new case in Nigeria, it rapidly increases due to the nationwide lockdown. In a statement issued out by Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu after a closed_ meeting with president Muhammad Buhari, he affirmed that rape cases hugely increased during periods of total lockdown.

Many females have been abused, raped and unfortunately, some died in the process. The rise of the incidence has tempted the patience of Nigerians to raise their voices against the act and suggested Opinions that could end rape in Nigeria.

Below are the suggested Opinions and are arranged in order of climax:

  1. REVEALING DRESSES SHOULD BE CAUTIONED

In this 21st century of ours, revealing dresses are mostly worn by female youths to present themselves as fashionistas. It was said that it is normal psychology to develop an interest in someone whose special body parts are exposed.

For instance, a female individual wears total revealing dresses and solely passes through the midst of male individuals of her type; with the look of things in Nigeria, ugly incidence might happen to her which means that she might be sexually assaulted.

Though, there are rape cases of those who wear body-covering dresses; nevertheless, it rarely occurs in the case of many. The sudden high cases of rape in Nigeria has exposed some cogent importance of body covering dresses, so revealing dresses should be replaced by body covering dresses.

2. THE ESSENTIAL ROLES OF PARENTS

Some notable individuals in Nigeria have suggested their opinions in the instance of parents’ roles to play in the current trying situation. Parents should deem it fit to monitor the lifestyle of their dependants in the sense that the mode of dressing is pleasing and checked while the purpose of going out should also be genuine.

Besides, knowing the kind of person they are left with is also important, and making sure that they are not left alone neither goes out alone; especially the females. Considering that there would be free movement in the future is a cogent reason to sacrifice this moment to protect the precious dependants.

3. FORMALIZATION OF CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

Former Nigerian senator representing Cross River south, Ita Giwa proposed that rapists should be castrated together with the same notion proposed by the minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, Ramatu Aliyu.

Working in collaboration is the only way to execute above-explored notions. Nigeria is a country known for its great records so its records should not be demeaned by rape cases. Long live Nigeria!
