African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Mr. John Nwosu, has pledged to strengthen democratic values, uphold the separation of powers, and drive grassroots development if elected in Anambra State.

Speaking with journalists in Awka on Sunday, Nwosu stressed the importance of collaboration among the three arms of government to safeguard freedom of choice, promote checks and balances, and build a more accountable democracy.

“Checks and balances are the foundation of good governance. When lawmakers freely represent their constituencies, it strengthens democracy and ensures responsive leadership for the people,” Nwosu said.

Referencing recent developments in the Anambra House of Assembly, he described them as an opportunity to reinforce democratic independence and unity across government institutions.

On his development agenda, Nwosu said he would prioritise agriculture and natural resources, highlighting the untapped potential in communities such as Ayamelum, Ogbaru, Awka North, Ihiala, Ihiemosi, and Lilu. According to him, investing in food and oil-producing areas would not only improve local security but also reduce food costs and empower rural households.

“We have great potential to produce enough food locally, which will help reduce costs and improve livelihoods across Anambra,” he said.

Nwosu also emphasized the need for transparent elections, particularly ahead of the November 8 governorship poll. He condemned vote-buying and called for stronger enforcement of electoral laws and voter education.

“Adhering to electoral laws protects our democracy and builds confidence in the system,” he noted, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all stakeholders to ensure electoral integrity.

While commending the achievements of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Nwosu described the upcoming election as an opportunity for the people of Anambra to determine the state’s future direction.
