The Anambra State Police Command has heightened security across schools and churches, increasing patrols and expanding intelligence operations to safeguard residents.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday in Awka.

According to Ikenga, Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu has ordered enhanced security measures around educational institutions and places of worship as part of a proactive plan to prevent potential threats.

He said the Commissioner instructed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to scale up patrols, reinforce intelligence-led operations, and strengthen other security strategies statewide.

Ikenga noted that Orutugu reaffirmed the command’s firm commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasising that the police will continue adjusting their tactics to address emerging challenges.

The Commissioner also praised the increasing level of public cooperation, describing residents’ vigilance and unity as instrumental in sustaining peace across the state.

“This collective commitment has significantly supported the command’s efforts in maintaining peace and security across Anambra,” Orutugu stated.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the security boost comes in response to recent attacks and kidnappings targeting schools and churches in parts of Northern and Western Nigeria.
