ABUJA, 15 May 2018 — Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) recorded brilliant feats at the weekend, some of which may possibly be unprecedented in Nigeria’s history.

In Ekiti, our Party successfully conducted a free, fair, open, transparent, rancour-free primary election for the governorship. On 12 May, the Party conducted an in-house debate amongst aspirants in order to assess their readiness for the task ahead and to avail member/voters the opportunity to decide intelligently. This was the first part of the Party primaries. The next day 13 May, the voting by open ballot system went swimmingly without incidence. Even though both events were strictly internal party processes, citizens were invited to be present and participate as observers of our processes.

Mr Tunde Afe, a pastor, life coach, motivational speaker, leadership trainer, with previous work experience spanning the financial, airline, logistics, broadcasting industries, and a published author of 7 books was returned as winner. He was gracious to pick Mr Kazeem Sanusi his opponent in the contest as his running mate, which has been accepted by both Mr Sanusi and the Party.

In Oyo, Local Government elections were held on 12 May, despite the very short notice by the State Election Management Body and other inconveniences. Even though our Party did not win any office, reports from our officials who monitored the process indicate that we came second in all polling units where we had candidates, and second over all in the elections. We won in some polling agents where we were able to have polling agents to ensure that there was no manipulation.

Some watchers have observed that there may have been irregularities at the many polling units where our Party did not have polling agents. In the end our party did very well. Lessons were learned. We shall correct and do better next time. Our Party is more persuaded now that we are on the right track, and we are what Nigerians have been yearning for.

Our Party expects that electronic voting would be used in all forthcoming elections at every level as exemplified by another state which held Local Government elections on that same day, rather than the manual method which is easily prone to errors and manipulations.
