APC: A Party In Disarray -By Isyaka Laminu Badamasi

Internal wrangling by political gladiators is normal in a political party, especially when the participants are all aimed towards grabbing a position in the affairs of, be it party officials, Delegates or the Party Flagbearers.

It is also normal for the gladiators to make amend and move towards achieving the desire objectives of the party for winning elections and the yearnings and aspirations of the populace.

Nigeria’s political arena have for the time immemorial experienced this.

The story is different in the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Nigeria, especially the Bauchi State Chapter of the ‘Club’. 

The dispute erupted as a result of the past weeks ward congresses is a case in point, where the party’s stakeholders in the state we’re accused of non compliance with the guidelines designed for the conduct of the exercise.

Few hours to the consensus, chairmen of the stakeholders at the local government levels were removed from their positions by the state caretaker chairman of the by the directives of the power that be in the party.

This happened as a result of, that all the ‘Stakeholders’ have their preferred candidates for all the positions be it the party structures or as candidates in all the elective position in the 2023 general elections.

Another problem that also put the party into a laughable and pitiable situation is the issue of who is the party leader in the State, this unending debate between former Governor’s camp and that of  the erstwhile Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara is a proof that ‘Ana Zaman Doya da Manja.

The above situation is not peculiar only to Bauchi State chapter of the party, it is the same scenario in almost all the APC states in the country and at the National level; the happenings in the party in Zamfara State is a case in point.

The party, For over five years in powe failed to put it house in order for the preparation towards the 2023 general elections. Sen Bola Ahmad Tunubu that is widely known as the ‘Bankroller’ of the club, party leader and elder statesman, who was also regarded by many as the possible party flagbearer is about to received the shock of his life from the actions and inactions of the party in preparations for the next general elections.

Myriads of night meetings by the party leadership at the National level with former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for his possible returned to the party and to become the party’s flagbearer in the 2023 general elections is an indicator that the political Waterloo of the powerful Bola Tinubu is nearer.

The above scenario is exactly what is happening here in Bauchi State chapter of the party, as, in less than a year, more than seven persons were brought to the fore and later dropped after being siphoned by the political entrepreneurs.

By these, the party will very soon join it ‘ancestors’.
