APC Blasts Turaki for “Reckless” Appeal for Foreign Intervention in Nigeria
The APC has slammed PDP factional chairman Tanimu Turaki for urging foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria’s politics, calling the remark reckless and dangerous. The ruling party warns the appeal threatens national security and reflects deepening PDP internal crisis.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday condemned what it called an irresponsible and unpatriotic appeal by Tanimu Turaki, the newly declared factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
Turaki, while addressing journalists in Abuja, had called on the international community to “save Nigeria’s democracy” amid claims of an impending foreign response to alleged “Christian genocide” in the country.
In a statement, APC spokesperson Felix Morning said Turaki’s comments amounted to inviting a foreign invasion and posed a grave risk to Nigeria’s sovereignty and security.
According to the ruling party, Turaki — who assumed the role of factional chairman less than 72 hours ago — appears “desperate, confused, incoherent and lacking the capacity to handle his party’s crisis.”
The APC argued that instead of working to reconcile the PDP’s warring factions, Turaki had chosen to escalate tensions by appealing for outside interference in what the ruling party described as a “self-inflicted internal crisis.”
The statement noted that even during the PDP’s 16 years in power — which the APC said were marked by the “ruthless suppression of opposition parties” — no party leader ever invited foreign powers to meddle in Nigeria’s political disputes.
The ruling party said Turaki’s remarks highlighted the opposition’s inability to manage its internal divisions and further demonstrated the PDP’s continued decline.
It added that the international community could clearly see through what it termed the PDP’s “embarrassing disintegration,” urging foreign partners to disregard Turaki’s call as a “pathetic distraction.”
The APC accused the PDP leadership of escalating desperation and warned that seeking external intervention for political gain crosses a dangerous line.
Reaffirming its trust in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, the party urged Nigerians to remain committed to supporting the administration’s efforts to ensure stability, development, and prosperity nationwide.
