ARISE News has confirmed the tragic death of one of its anchors, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.

In a statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of management, the network described Maduagwu—fondly called “Sommie”—as a vibrant journalist whose work deeply connected with audiences.

“Sommie was not only a cherished member of the ARISE News family but also a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers. We extend our deepest condolences to her parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time. Her voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits,” the statement read.

Maduagwu, aged 29, was also a trained lawyer in addition to her broadcasting career. She was remembered by colleagues as a professional, supportive teammate and a dear friend.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, and is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police. Attempts to obtain an update from the FCT Police Command proved unsuccessful, as the Command has yet to respond to inquiries.
