Arne Slot insists he will ‘keep fighting’ as Liverpool’s struggles worsen
Liverpool manager Arne Slot insists he will “keep fighting” despite the club’s poor run of form, following a 4–1 Champions League defeat to PSV. The Dutch coach says conversations with the club’s owners remain unchanged as Liverpool prepare to face West Ham.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he remains determined to “keep fighting,” stressing that his communication with the club’s owners has not changed despite the team’s alarming downturn in form.
The defending Premier League champions suffered a heavy 4–1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday — their ninth loss in 12 matches across all competitions. The result prompted large sections of the Anfield crowd to leave early in frustration.
With Liverpool now sitting 12th in the Premier League, they head to an in-form West Ham side on Sunday seeking a much-needed turnaround.
Slot, who guided Liverpool to the league title last season in his debut campaign, reiterated after the PSV defeat that he believes his job is not under threat.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday ahead of the West Ham fixture, Slot was asked whether he had spoken to the club’s hierarchy since the loss.
“We’ve had the same conversations since I’ve been here,” he replied.
“We fight on. And we try to improve, that’s what we all try. But the conversations have been the same as they’ve been for the past one and a half years.”
Acknowledging that Liverpool’s performance levels have noticeably dipped, Slot maintained he had not been let down by his squad.
“We think we can play better than we do,” he said. “But last season, when we did really well, there was a lot of focus on certain individuals and I always said it should be about the team, and the team makes the individuals look very good.
“And if the opposite is happening, we should also look at the team and not at the individuals.”
