Mikel Arteta has described Arsenal’s dramatic 3-2 comeback victory against Bournemouth as evidence of his team’s growth as they chase their first Premier League title in 22 years.

The win lifted the Gunners six points clear of Aston Villa at the summit and seven ahead of Manchester City, who still have a game in hand against Chelsea on Sunday.

Arsenal were forced to respond early after a rare mistake from Gabriel Magalhaes gifted Bournemouth the opening goal. The Brazilian defender, however, quickly redeemed himself by scoring the equaliser at the other end.

Declan Rice then struck twice in the second half to put Arsenal in control, although a superb late effort from Eli Kroupi briefly revived Bournemouth’s hopes.

“They are so good, (we) made it even harder for ourselves conceding the first goal but I love the character of the team,” Arteta said.
“I love the character of Gabriel. The way he overcame that situation, it’s just unbelievable.

“It says a lot about how much we’ve grown. The team found a way to beat them and it’s a massive win.”

Rice had been a major fitness doubt after missing Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Aston Villa due to knee swelling, but the England international pushed to return and delivered the decisive goals.

“He has stretched himself to the very limit and the team were rewarded with two great goals,” Arteta added.
“I think it’s the first time he’s scored two in a Premier League game, so yes a great day to remember.”
