ADC PARTY

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally become a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the coalition-backed party he is expected to work with as the 2027 elections approach.

Atiku announced the move on Monday via his X handle, sharing a photo of himself holding his ADC membership card with the succinct caption: “It’s official.”

His decision comes after he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July, a period marked by prolonged internal turmoil within the party.

Atiku exited the PDP just two weeks after opposition figures adopted and introduced the ADC as their platform for the 2027 presidential race.

Why Atiku Left the PDP

Shortly after his media aide, Paul Ibe, confirmed his resignation, Atiku provided further explanation in a letter dated July 16.

Addressed to the Chairman of PDP Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State, the letter cited irreconcilable differences and a shift in the party’s direction away from what he described as its foundational ideals.

“I am writing to formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” he wrote.

The former Vice President extended goodwill to the party and its leaders, expressing gratitude for the support he received during his years within the PDP.

“I wish the Party and its leadership all the best in the future. Thank you once again for the opportunities and support,” he concluded.
