The danger of drug abuse is one of the most important aspect of social dilemma in Nigeria. I feel deplorable and miserable on how I see our youths taking illegal substance dying here and there.

Our youths of nowadays consider taking hard substances as a solution to their problems, but not knowing that hard substances cannot end their problems but rather serve as harmful chemicals that can destroy their lives.

My heart is full of sorrow and dysphoric on how our youths are behaving in the society as mob and thaugs by the use of hard drugs that can take them out of their normal senses.

In the case of political rallies most of our politicians are in the war front of providing hard substances to our youths in order to achieve their political goals.

According to United nations office of drug and crime, stated that in Nigeria, cannabis use was 7 times higher among men (18.8 per cent among men vs. 2.6 per cent of women), while the gender gap in the non-medical use of pharmaceutical opioids (such as tramadol) was less marked (6 per cent among men vs. 3.3 per cent among women).• An estimated 4.7 per cent of the population, i.e. 4.6 million people had used opioids (such as tramadol, codeine, or morphine) for non-medical purposes in the past year.

• The non-medical use of cough syrups containing codeine and dextromethorphan is estimated at 2.4 per cent of the adult population (nearly 2.4 million people). The misuse of cough syrups is almost comparable among men (2.3 per cent) and women (2.5 per cent).

• The non-medical use of tranquilizers (0.5 per cent), and the use of ecstasy (0.3 per cent), inhalants (0.3 per cent) amphetamines (0.2 per cent) and cocaine (0.1 per cent)

Though not insignificant remains lower than the drugs mentioned earlier.
In Nigeria over 90 percent of all terrorism activists was done after taking cannabis, because all actions by the terrorists are inhumane .

Over 75 percent of psychiatrists cases in Nigeria is as a result of drug abuse, not naturally. Youths can easily run mad after taking hard substances, which is taken without prescription and orientations.

And also the issue of school dropout students, although not all of them are victims of drug abuse but over 90 percent of school dropout students engaged in drug abuse activities. Most of them are taken drugs before going to their normal classes for lectures, my question here is, how can a person that is out of his sense can understand what the lecture is all about?.
Further more how did you expect someone who engaged in taken hard substances to read and comprehend talk more of passing exams.

I recommended that federal government, should organise an oratorical seminar pertaining effect and dangers of drug abuse among our youths. And also parents should be at the helm of their children’s affairs and know their associate friends.
Government should also provide the National drugs law and enforcement agency (NDLEA) with training and technical equipments that will help them to effectively discharge their responsibility.
