Ayen community in Uhumwode Local Government Area of Edo State has called on the state government and security agencies to urgently address worsening insecurity and alleged unlawful arrests of some of its members.

In a statement released to journalists on Thursday, community spokesperson Comrade Segun Babs said Ayen has battled persistent insecurity for more than eight years, citing incidents of killings and kidnappings that have deeply affected residents.

According to the statement, the community had previously reported security threats but felt their concerns were not taken seriously. It further alleged that armed groups were attempting to seize land in the area.

While commending recent government efforts in reducing insecurity across the state, the community said fresh incidents had occurred. It noted that during a recent operation, five suspects were arrested, of which three were later released. The statement alleged that some of the released suspects returned and were repelled by military personnel.

The community also raised concern that during follow-up operations, some of its leaders were detained and taken to Abuja. It claimed several members remain in custody and insisted that investigations should be handled transparently and within the jurisdiction of the Edo State Police Command.

Expressing fear of renewed attacks, the Ayen community appealed to the Edo State Government and the State Commissioner of Police to intervene, ensure due process for those detained, and restore lasting peace in the area.
