Bandits launched a renewed attack on Isapa community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State yesterday, attempting to abduct residents before being successfully confronted by local vigilantes on alert.

According to reports, a heavy exchange of gunfire occurred between the attackers and the vigilante group. The community immediately issued a distress call to the state government, which then deployed soldiers from nearby Eruku to provide backup.

Sources said no vigilante member sustained injuries, as the attackers were forced to retreat during the confrontation.

Isapa is located about five kilometres from Eruku, where three people were killed and 38 worshippers abducted from a church last Tuesday.

Confirming the incident, Treasurer of the Isapa Peoples Union, IPU, Mr. Abayomi Daramola, told Vanguard:

“My people called me this evening to inform me of the bandits’ attack on our community, but thank God they weren’t able to abduct anyone. Our local vigilantes were up to the task as they engaged them in gunshots. A SOS was sent to the state government, which immediately directed soldiers in Eruku, which is just a few miles away, to reinforce.
