Barcelona Rally to Beat Real Oviedo 3-1 in La Liga with Lewandowski and Araujo Headers
Barcelona came from behind to defeat Real Oviedo 3-1 in La Liga. Eric Garcia equalised before Robert Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo sealed the win. The Catalans stay two points behind Real Madrid in the title race.
Barcelona came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over Real Oviedo in Thursday’s La Liga encounter, thanks to second-half headers from Robert Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo.
The Catalans found themselves trailing in the 33rd minute after goalkeeper Joan Garcia’s error gifted Alberto Reina a stunning 40-yard strike into an empty net.
However, Hansi Flick’s side turned the game around after the break. Eric Garcia equalised early in the second half, finishing from close range after Aaron Escandell had saved Ferran Torres’ effort from Araujo’s cross.
Substitute Lewandowski then nodded in a superb header from Frenkie de Jong’s delivery to put Barcelona ahead, before Araujo sealed the win in the 88th minute with another powerful header from Marcus Rashford’s corner.
Despite missing teenage star Lamine Yamal, Barcelona secured their fourth consecutive win in all competitions. They now sit second in the table, two points behind leaders Real Madrid, who maintained their perfect record with a midweek victory over Levante.
Marcus Rashford, starting on the left wing after being benched last weekend for arriving late to a team meeting, was heavily involved. The on-loan Manchester United forward tested Escandell multiple times, with the Oviedo goalkeeper making several key saves, including after Raphinha struck the post.
Veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla, 40, made his first start of the season for newly promoted Oviedo, who showed resilience but could not contain Barcelona’s attacking pressure.
Barcelona return to action on Sunday when they host Real Sociedad, while Real Madrid face Atletico Madrid in Saturday’s highly anticipated derby clash.
