Bayelsa Government uncovers plans to disrupt construction of Project -By Tife Owolabi

The Bayelsa state government has said it has it on good authority that there are ongoing plans by some persons within some communities in Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas to disrupt construction activities of the Nembe-Brass road.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Ayibaina Duba, on Friday, during the ‘Transparency Briefing’ for March and April.

Duba noted that the state’s ministry of works is already liaising with communities in the Nembe-Brass axis to ensure a smooth construction process.

He, however, pleaded with youths and community leaders to allow the government to deliver on its development mandate by ensuring a hitch-free construction of the Nembe-Brass road project.

He said: “And again we are pleading just like we pleaded the last time with communities in and around the neighbourhood to please assist us so that there is no stalling of the project.

“We have some intelligence reports that some people are planning to disrupt the smooth execution of the project by going to the site to do some unwholesome things.”

“The Ministry of Works is already engaging the communities at different and multiple levels and different layers to make sure that the project is executed seamlessly.

“So, I am on behalf of the government, as a government spokesman, calling on the Nembe-Brass people to take the project as theirs.

Duba also disclosed that the groundbreaking of the project will be performed once governor Douye Diri is less busy with his schedule.

“The government has mobilized contractors and we are just waiting for the governor, Douye Diri to do the ground-breaking because he is involved in a lot of activities presently but when his schedule is less we will find an opening and invite you for the groundbreaking.”
