Better Leaders Of Tomorrow Should Be Good Leaders Of Yesterday And Today -By Ezekiel Isah Datsok

The same goes for Peter Obi. Look at his incredible record of excellence in leadership both as The Governor of Anambra state and as the Chairman and CEO of numerous gigantic business entities. Why will I doubt him if he promised to lead  us to the promise land.

Nigeria's past heads of state

Abubakar Bukola Saraki, former Senate President and Governor of Kwara state while engaging Kaduna PDP stakeholders and delegates in a meeting held on Sunday promised to do many things for Nigerians if elected president  including provision of free medical services, securing the nation and uniting it.

HOW FUNNY?

Bukola Saraki was the Governor of Kwara state between 2003-2011. He was also a in the senate from 2011-2019 where he served as it’s president in his second term as Senator.

The question Nigerians should be asking themselves is if he has made enough efforts to ensure that Nigeria was secured when he was Senate President? Or if medical services were free when he was The Governor of Kwara state? The obvious answer is No. How then can he do these things he was unable to do as Senate President and Governor when he emerge as Nigeria ‘s President. Who is fooling who?

This is is the brutally honest and dark reality of our political system. We have people who are hitherto very bad leaders coming up with promises to do good things overnight. Sadly, we fall for their  traps and keep repeating corrupt leaders who full their pockets and leave us to wallow in suffering and cancerous underdevelopment.

The wisest thing to do when choosing leaders is to excavate their preceding exploits and compare it with what they are promising to do. That is an objective way of assessing the feasibility of their promises. Not giving in to utterly empty political fallacies.

Look at Babagana Zulum for example. This is a man who has done extraordinarily well as Borno State Governor. I will certainly believe him if he promise to change Nigeria. Not like some established looters who will promise to fight corruption if elected. What an Irony?

The same goes for Peter Obi. Look at his incredible record of excellence in leadership both as The Governor of Anambra state and as the Chairman and CEO of numerous gigantic business entities. Why will I doubt him if he promised to lead  us to the promise land.

A popular house cliche goes thus;” jumma’a mai kyau daga laraba ake ganin ta….”  Loosely translated as :” a better Friday is anticipated if it’s preceding Wednesday is good. Indeed, better leaders of tomorrow should be anticipated if they are good today.

Enough of been used as rags and dogs by politicians who underrate  our capacity for reasoning and always attempt to dribble our minds.

This article is for people who will want to X-ray the various candidates we have on ground even superficially. It is not for those who will vote because of maggi, wrappers, omo and sentiments. Those one’s are not praying for a better Nigeria.

NR EZEKIEL ISAH DATSOK is a concerned Nigerian.
