BREAKING: Oprah Winfrey’s father dies at 89
“Less than a week ago we honoured my father in his own backyard,” she wrote in the caption. “My friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps saluted him with a song. He felt the love until he could no longer speak.”
American TV host and business mogul, Oprah Winfrey, has announced the passing of her father, Vernon Winfrey.
The billionaire took to her Instagram page on Saturday, and revealed that her father died on Friday at the age of 89.
His passing comes days after the family organised a party in his honour during the United States independence celebration on the 4th of July.
Oprah shared a video from the event where her father was being serenaded by gospel singer, Wintley Phipps.
“Less than a week ago we honoured my father in his own backyard,” she wrote in the caption. “My friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps saluted him with a song. He felt the love until he could no longer speak.
“Yesterday, with family surrounding his bedside, I had the sacred honour of witnessing the man responsible for my life take his last breath. We could feel peace enter the room at his passing. That peace still abides. All is well, thank you for your prayers and good thoughts.”
Oprah had earlier lost mother, Vernita Lee who died at the age of 83 in 2018.
