Breaking: Rivers Lawmakers Insist on Resuming Impeachment Proceedings Against Fubara, Odu
Ijaw lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly urge Speaker Martin Amaewhule to reopen chambers to resume impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu.
Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of Ijaw extraction have called on the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, to reopen the Assembly Chambers to allow lawmakers resume impeachment proceedings against Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
The development comes as four lawmakers who had earlier advocated a political resolution to the crisis reversed their position and withdrew from that stance, aligning instead with the impeachment process.
Recall that the House was expected to reconvene on Thursday but failed to do so. However, lawmakers met on Friday at the Conference Hall within their residential quarters, where they reiterated their resolve to continue with the impeachment proceedings.
According to the legislators, the decision to resume the process followed what they described as the continued refusal of the governor and his deputy to address the constitutional issues raised in the impeachment notice.
Hon. Barile Nwakoh, representing Khana Constituency I, and Hon. Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, who addressed journalists, said they had abandoned their earlier push for political solutions and were now prepared to proceed with the impeachment of the governor.
