#EndBadGovernance protest in Abuja

Amnesty International Nigeria has denounced the #EndBadGovernance protestors’ mass trial.

Today is the first day of the trial in Abuja, Kano, and Kaduna.

Remember that during the August 2024 hunger and hardship protests, a sizable number of demonstrators were taken into custody by security personnel.

“Amnesty International condemns the sham trial of the protesters even before it begins, and calls for an end to these endless bizarre attempts to deprive people of the right to peaceful protest,” AI stated in a statement posted on its X platform on Monday, denouncing their mass prosecution. The unfair trial is nothing more than a covert operation designed to penalize those who disagree.

“Some of the charges to be filed against the protesters, ranging from treason, which carries the death penalty and allegations of ‘plans to destabilize Nigeria,’ show how far the Nigerian authorities can go in manipulating the criminal justice system to silence critical voices.
