CAF Confirms Morocco as Host for 2026 World Cup African Playoff Tournament

CAF has announced that Morocco will host the 2026 World Cup African playoffs in November 2025, featuring the four best runners-up battling for a spot in the intercontinental playoff to secure Africa’s final ticket to the tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed Morocco as the host nation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff tournament, unveiling the full schedule and format for the decisive event that will determine the continent’s final qualifier for the global showpiece.

In a circular sent to all member federations, CAF stated that the playoffs will be held in November 2025, shortly after the conclusion of the qualifying group stage.

According to the schedule, the semi-final matches of the four-team mini-tournament will take place on November 13, 2025, while the final is slated for November 16, 2025.

CAF revealed that the playoff will feature the four best runners-up from the nine qualifying groups, determined after Matchday 10 of the group stage.

In case of a draw, matches will go into extra time and, if necessary, be decided by penalty shootouts. Teams will also be allowed five substitutions, with a sixth substitution permitted during extra time.

The October 2025 FIFA World Rankings, to be released on October 23, will determine the seeding and draw for the playoffs. The highest-ranked team will face the fourth-ranked in one semi-final, while the second-ranked team meets the third-ranked in the other.

CAF also confirmed that the winner of the Moroccan playoff tournament will advance to the intercontinental playoff scheduled for March 2026, where they will compete against representatives from Asia, South America, Oceania, and Concacaf for Africa’s 10th and final slot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
