Campaigns against Rape and Christians -By Oladeji Olaniyan
Let me remind you that any sexual intercourse outside the four corners of marriage is still an ANATHEMA before God; it is a SIN. In fact, one of SINS God vowed to personally punish those who involve themselves in it (1cor 6: 15-20).

Rape has become a current trend in our society. Young girls are forcefully defiled and murdered by some brute Men. It is, indeed, worrisome especially the recent upsurge in the number of cases. The case of Uwa, the student of University of Benin who was raped and murdered in a Church, is a bitter pill all faithful Christians can not afford to swallow and many other pathetic Rape cases.
Rape, as it were, is a horrific and traumatic experience for the victims of this dastard act and as such, the world have unitedly come together to campaign and protest against Rape both online and physically.
This campaign is a good step in the right direction. Campaigns against Rape have necessitated the upheaval of different slogan or mantra as it were. Popular amongst the campaign mantra is focused on seeking consent from the opposite gender and if the consent is accepted then the case of Rape and its aftermath would be minimized or totally avoided. This is good actually, judging from the societal dictates. The society dictates how things should be done, which changes from dispensation to dispensation. Now, seeking acceptable sexual consent or proposal is the next best thing to do. That what the society says my brothers and sisters.

Those slogans sounds good and probable to the ears but BELIEVERS BEWARE, don’t be carried away neither be thou deceived – seeking acceptable consent from the opposite gender as popularly opined does not, in anyway, negate the injunctions of God almighty. The society may paint it as absolutely right to do but God still frowns at it.
Let me remind you that any sexual intercourse outside the four corners of marriage is still an ANATHEMA before God; it is a SIN. In fact, one of SINS God vowed to personally punish those who involve themselves in it (1cor 6: 15-20).
In summary, Seeking Acceptable Consent or receiving consent does not, in anyway, neutralise the crux of the matter that sex outside the wedlock is a SIN before God. Hence, the need for proper propagation for Sexual Purity, which is has been glossed over or taken lightly in our generation. Self control must be exercised by those who are seemingly tempted with reliance on God for victory over the temptation. Proper parenting needs to be advocated. Charity begins at home, says a popular cliche, Children (both gender) needs to schooled about the dignity that lies in keeping ones virginity and to be sexually pure too.
To the nonbelievers, instead of seeking consent why not adhere to abstinence. I know it is not easy but I know loving and caring person who can help you out. Seek Jesus Christ today, trust me, He can help you out. Don’t mess up your earthly and eternal future for ephemeral pleasures. Seek Jesus now
