Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has condemned Mohamed Salah’s explosive comments about manager Arne Slot, calling the Egyptian star “a disgrace” following his public criticism.

Salah, who has been benched for three consecutive matches, told reporters after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds that he felt “thrown under a bus” and claimed he had no relationship with Slot. The striker’s frustration comes amid a dip in form this season.

In the wake of the outburst, Liverpool dropped the 33-year-old from the squad traveling to Italy for Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Inter Milan.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher—part of Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League–winning squad—did not hold back.

“I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game,” he said. “Some people have described it as emotional. I don’t see it that way. Salah barely stops in the mixed zone—maybe four times in eight years—and when he does, it’s coordinated with his agent to create maximum impact and strengthen his leverage.

“He’s picked this moment, after a bad result when the club feels at its lowest, to go after the manager and potentially push him toward the sack.”

Salah, a two-time Premier League winner with Liverpool and a Champions League hero, signed a new deal in April. However, he hinted his time at Anfield could be nearing its end as he prepares to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations following Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Brighton.

Rumours continue to link him with a lucrative switch to the Saudi Pro League.

Carragher added: “The club were right not to let him walk away. Whether he plays for Liverpool again, I don’t know. I hope he does—he’s one of the greatest players we’ve ever had. But with comments like that, if he stays out of the team, who knows what happens next.”
